PGA Professional Preston Bebich of Canterwood Golf & Country Club captured the Northwest Open Invitational on August 19 at Sunriver Resort’s Woodlands Course, firing rounds of 64-69-66–199 to finish one stroke ahead of PGA Professionals Daniel Campbell of Bellingham Golf & Country Club and Colin Inglis of Eugene Country Club.

Bebich established himself as an early contender with a first-round 64. Amateur Owen Davis-Piger of the Oregon Golf Association was just one stroke behind at 65, while PGA Professionals Blake Snyder, Daniel Campbell, Colin Inglis and Scott Erdmann were another stroke back at 66.

With the leaderboard tightly packed after the opening round, there was little room for error.

Bebich and Davis-Piger entered the final round tied at 133. Bebich stayed steady throughout the final 18, carding a 6-under-par 66 to finish at 17-under 199 and claim his first Section major.

Temperatures climbed into the high 80s throughout the championship, while Sunriver Resort’s Woodlands Course was in immaculate condition.

The conditions suited Bebich’s game, particularly his driving.

“With the great weather and altitude, it was a good week to drive the ball well,” he said. “I was able to push the ball close to greens and capitalize on the shorter approaches.”

While Bebich would love to play more competitive golf, a busy summer at Canterwood Golf & Country Club has kept him close to home.

“Canterwood has had a very busy summer,” he said. “Being able to play twilight nines and using our launch monitor here at the club helped me round my game into shape.”

Looking ahead, Bebich is looking forward to competing in the PNW PGA Pro-Am at Palouse Ridge with one of his former teammates.

Additionally, “Jim Gillies, my head pro, is going to team up with me for one more run at the Pro-Assistant during the WWPGA Chapter Championship.”

Low amateur honors went to Akshay Anand of Sahalee Country Club, who finished fifth overall.

The Northwest Open Invitational is a 54-hole individual competition, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 45 percent of PGA Professionals and ties, along with all amateurs within that range.
